Week 9 Lash Extensions & Class Extensions

I didn’t get the chance to meet with Dr. Stoltman through MS Teams like we traditionally do, but I inquired about what he is expecting as we wrap the Capstone up and checked in via email. He mentioned that the typical format of the Fall and Winter Capstone was extended beyond eight weeks and that I use more a couple more weeks to finalize deliverables, edit work and continue to work on things outlined with Jeff.

As much as I originally thought that the Reflection Paper would rely heavily on these entries, I am realizing that I need to reflect on all my courses associated with the Entrepreneurship and Innovation program. I have printed all the syllabi again and have been nostalgically reviewing previous notes, handouts and projects. As laborious as an 8-10-page paper sounds, it is necessary to reflect to see how far I’ve come and grown as an entrepreneur.  I am glad Dr. Stoltman allotted more time because reviewing things will require some extra time.

Instead of revising the Lean Canvas I am still gathering calendars. Although the Calendars that I have been able to collect do not have information based on appointments scheduled during COVID, I can see that most of the people that do lash extensions have time based on other employment and obligations. Most stylists work solely on lashes and no other services, they do have other jobs and long periods they are unavailable due to other life obligations. I am only at 15 of these calendars. I am sure my findings will change with the addition of more calendars. I asked Jeff Ponders about my Facebook and IG ads. The effectiveness seems to be dying off with the launch of my new products . Next week we will convene and discuss my ad effectiveness.

I have reached out to several people from Detroit Start Up Week. I won’t name them, but the response has been slow or altogether silent. This may be because they have so many people to respond to. I completely understand that a lot of people had the same opportunity to attend and were also trying to contact the speakers. I will give it more time and try to reach out again.

The COVID numbers are continuing to increase and I am anxious about life, school and business. But instead of being nervous, I can be prepared. I will do my best to put nerves to the side and use the info from the COVID trends to pivot when and if necessary.

Progress during prior week

  • Asked questions during Check-in with Dr. Stoltman, regarding concluding the Capstone

  • Worked on the Reflection Paper

  • Worked on the Lean Canvas

  • Reached out to contacts from Detroit Startup Week

  • Observed COVID trends and execute business plans accordingly

Plans for the coming week

  • Continue with projects

  • Reflect on handouts, notes and projects from previous EI courses

  • Work on Reflection Paper

  • Analyze Calendars for Lean Canvas

  • Look into Facebook and Instagram effectiveness with Jeff Ponders

Questions/Issues/Concerns/Observations I see that the Reflection Paper requires more than I initially expected. I will have to allocate more time to the Reflection of this course, but I look forward to it.
